There comes a time in everyone’s life when you turn the corner, lift your head and say..”How in the WORLD did I get here?” I know it has happened to all of us. Some of us more often than others. This is what I call a “Get’cho Life” moment. It’s in that moment where you, truly, evaluate the decisions you made since your last “Get’cho Life” moment. You find yourself asking questions like:
- Am I happy?
- What can I do to find more happiness?
- Is this what I want for my life?
- Am I any closer to happiness than I was last time I asked these questions?
As you all know, I preach Passion, Purpose and Perspective all the time. Well, I truly feel that happiness only realizes when your passion meets your purpose. Here are a few steps I’ve shared with close friends to get your “HAPPY on”.
Step 1: Find what you love to do and DO IT!
This may come harder for some than others. Some of us have a billion hobbies. Our struggle is to focus on one and be great at it. Others have not a clue what we like to do. We just work, take care of our families, etc. Because of this, we don’t know what we like to do for fun. To those people I say “Try everything”. Start with Living Social or Groupon. Sign up for some classes for “the low”. If you like it, great! If you don’t, try something else. Believe me, it’s an investment in You. If you already know what you like to do, do it. You will be happier for it. (See my other article on Losing Your Voice)
Step 2. Focus on being the best at what you do.
Everyone wants to be proud of the things they’re name is assigned to. If you are doing what you love, be the best you can be at it. Your only competition should be yourself. If you are not doing what you can be proud of, change what you do. It may not happen overnight but you have to make a conscious effort to do what you are meant to do and become who you are meant to become. Otherwise, you are wasting your life away. That sounds harsh but it’s the hard truth. No more excuses! Your time is the most precious thing you have. Do not waste it.
Step 3: Discover how your passion can help other people.
Once you’ve discovered or uncovered your passion, take time to determine how your passion/talent can be used to help others. I am a firm believer that if you used your passion to help others, you will find your Purpose. We are not to live and function in a vacuum. We are all interconnected spiritually and physically. We MUST make it a point to find our Purpose in others. It’s how we survive.
